Core Curriculum Conference Notes

Example Classroom BYOD Policy

In order to develop a successful BYOD program in your classroom, you need to begin by having a strong set of policies and procedures to ensure the devices are instructive and not distractive.  The following list is a short example BYOD policy you can use when first introducing your students to BYOD in your classroom.

1. Upon entry and departure of class, please ensure devices are turned off and stored in your backpack.

2. On days when we are using devices for learning, they may be powered on but must remain on silent.

3. Devices are only to be used for classwork in this class.

4. When devices are not in use on a BYOD day, the device must be placed face down on the upper left side of your desk.

5. If you are found not using your device for classwork you will be asked to place it in the bin at the front of the room with a post-it indicating your name and class with the following consequences:

  • After the first infraction each grading  period you can collect your phone at the end of class.
  • After the second infraction you can collect your device at the end of the day from the office for a $15 fee per the student handbook.
  • After the 3rd infraction, you will lose your device privileges for the remainder of the grading period.
  • At the beginning of the grading period you have a clean slate.
